SPLANKY - Recorded by COUNT BASIE - Arrangement by ROY PHILLIPPE

(Swing - Easy) Available on ejazzlines website. Download the link here

Splanky was composed by jazz great Neal Hefti for the legendary Count Basie band. Arranger Roy Phillippe brings this arrangement to the easy level and yet keeps the integrity of Hefti's original chart. Solos are written out, or ad-lib for piano and 1st alto saxophone. Teaching the famous Basie shout chorus will be a breeze and the trademark Basie piano style is in there, too. (3:14) I would also suggest that the band directors and students check out the original Count Basie version not just the sound file which comes with the chart. What is going to be looked for in the performance is capturing the Count Basie swing and the swing vibe of the soloists.
