A showcase of some of New Zealand’s exceptional young talent….

Grand Bacharachian orchestration, cosmic mid-70s jazz, pop and funk, krautrock, and Keith Jarrett are among the inspirations for pianist / keyboardist and composer Joe Kaptein’s current musical project ’The Joe Kaptein Quartet’. Since arriving in Auckland from Whangarei, Joe graduated from jazz school and has been developing, recording and producing an album of his own music, overdubbing all the instruments himself at home.

Joe is an electrifying performer, mature beyond his years, and will be playing a mix of his originals and a few covers of some exquisite 70s pop songs. Joe Kaptein is up front on keyboards and will be joined by Andrew Isdale on Saxaphone, George Brajkovich on Drums, Jason Herbert on guitar and Wil Goodinson on bass. A show not to be missed and showcasing some of New Zealand’s most talented young musicians.

COVID-19 Update

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced on Saturday afternoon tighter border controls, with everyone arriving in New Zealand having to isolate themselves for 14 days. There will be an official government directive on mass gatherings announced early next week.

We are awaiting details of the official requirements from government and local authorities and will update you as soon as possible if this could have any impact on this year’s National Jazz Festival and National Youth Jazz Competition.

Many thanks for your interest and support.
