Jazz Jam Report
Another fabulous Jazz Jam was had in June. Life member Brian Geoghan came along and played a few tunes with the house band which featured Alana Milson on piano. It is always a pleasure to play with Brian and Alana did a fantastic job of leading the band. Brian seemed to enjoy himself so we look forward to the next time.
This was followed by The Randy Matthews Quintet playing their slant on trad jazz, they were a hit at Swing Into Spring last year and were fabulous once again. Their guitarist Steve Kirkby stuck around and jammed the night away. Thanks Steve.
John Ellis played some scorching soprano sax and we look forward to more of that in July.
We were also joined by a new drummer in town, Will McClure who is moving to Tauranga and we hope will become a regular. Will has played around the world and met many of the best jazz drummers including Papa Jo Jones, Max Roach and Roy Haynes, and has played with many luminaries himself. We look forward to his return.
Apologies for anyone I've left out. Next jam night is Wednesday 31st July. Hope to see you all there, don't forget to book if you want a table at the Mount Social Club for great food and hospitality, and of course the best jazz in town.
Cheers
Vice-President (and Gig Boss)
