Hurricane Party

Swing the night away with our groovy jazz acts.

The National Jazz Festival’s Hurricane Party is back in full swing this year, with a great line-up of quality ‘groove-meisters’ to get everyone dancing the night away.

Featuring Miho’s Jazz Orchestra (MJO), a dynamic jazz ensemble led by Japanese-born New Zealander Miho Wada on flute and saxophone, performing 100% original music.

Spiral Collective is a six-piece upbeat jazz-funk band from Auckland who have been playing festivals and shows throughout New Zealand for over a decade. Original music telling stories and giving uplifiting messages to the world.

Led by diminutive powerhouse front woman Manuela Ovalle Herrera and backed by a full horn section, Big Tasty are funky, jazzy and and never fail to get people dancing. After winning Battle of the Bands 2020 and finishing a small nation-wide tour, Big Tasty are rapidly gaining popularity and have received rave reviews from their performances across New Zealand.

COVID-19 Update

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced on Saturday afternoon tighter border controls, with everyone arriving in New Zealand having to isolate themselves for 14 days. There will be an official government directive on mass gatherings announced early next week.

We are awaiting details of the official requirements from government and local authorities and will update you as soon as possible if this could have any impact on this year’s National Jazz Festival and National Youth Jazz Competition.

Many thanks for your interest and support.
